A concert featuring Carmine Lauri on violin and Francesca Lauri on piano, to commemorate the sixtieth anniversary from the founding of the organisation. The inaugural meeting of Din l-Art Ħelwa (DLH) was held at the Teatru Manoel in Valletta on 9 July 1965.
Din l-Art Ħelwa, National Trust of Malta, is a non-governmental, not-for-profit, voluntary organization founded in 1965 to protect and promote Malta’s cultural heritage and the environment. Since its foundation it has restored and manages numerous sites of immense historic and environmental
importance. Many historic buildings were painstakingly saved over the years and include St Agatha`s Tower (The Red Tower), Wignacourt Tower, Xufu Tower, Għallis Tower, Qalet Marku Tower, Torri Mamo, Msida Bastion Cemetery and Garden of Rest, Dwejra Tower in Gozo, Santa Maria Tower
and Santa Maria Battery on Comino, as well as the Church of Our Lady of Victory in Valletta. Din l-Art Ħelwa also holds a number of historic chapels in trust from the Archdiocese of Malta including the Medieval Chapels of the Annunciation of Hal Millieri, the Chapel of Santa Marija ta’ Birmiftuħ in Gudja and the Chapel of St Roque in Zebbuġ.
Din l-Art Ħelwa actively campaigns against inappropriate development in and around urban conservation areas and in the countryside. The organisation was instrumental in establishing the Majjistral Park, Malta’s first protected National Nature and History Park. Its ongoing restoration projects include the Australian Bungalow, a timber structure sent to Malta in the 1920’s to train prospective Maltese migrants on timber construction, the Medieval Chapel of Sanċir (San Mikiel) in Rabat amongst others.
