This is a historic ornate baroque oval auditorium with a seating capacity of 547 spread across the orchestra stalls, parterre boxes, 51 individual boxes on three levels (Tiers) and the gallery. Entrance is on Old Theatre Street (Triq it-Teatru l-Antik).
A Murano glass chandelier, which is the centrepiece of the pale blue Trompe-l’œil ceiling, and sconces in the Rezzonico style adorn the main auditorium.
The stage’s proscenium arch is 7.30 metres wide and 5.58 metres high. The stage is 12 metres deep with an additional 3 metres apron at the front which is on a hydraulic lift and can be lowered to form the orchestra pit. The stage is fully equipped with lights and a hemp style manually operated fly system.
The Studio Theatre is an intimate black-box-style space with a performance area of 7 metres by 5 metres. It has a permanent tiered seating area with cushioned benches for approximately 60 adults.
Entrance is from the theatre’s stage door at No. 81, Old Mint Street (Triq Zekka), Valletta (round the corner from the main Theatre entrance) which also houses the theatre’s costume house and rehearsal and dressing rooms. The Studio Theatre is on the top floor with an adjoining bar area and outdoor terrace that is perfect for breaks or interval drinks.
