Back to What's onGħaqda Nazzjonali Każini tal-Banda presents a special concert on December 6 at the emblematic Teatru Manoel with the Malta Symphonic Band under the direction of Maestro Giampaolo Lazzeri in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Puccini’s death. Esteemed performers of the National Band will take the stage to present some of Puccini’s most iconic works. The concert will be a highlight of the commemorative series of events marking this special anniversary, offering the audience the opportunity to experience the emotional depth and dramatic intensity of Puccini’s music in one of Malta’s most prestigious venues. The program will not feature any of the typical arias usually performed, but instead, a number of never-before-heard pieces will be presented for Wind Orchestra, along with special transcriptions of newly discovered works by the acclaimed composer. The Malta Symphonic Band will be joined by tenor Cliff Zammit Stevens.
This instrument of cultural diffusion, which the great Maestro considered to be ‘the musical bread of the people’, is still lagging behind other disciplines in that it is often viewed with a certain degree of scepticism.
In addressing the issue of the dissemination of musical culture, it is essential to emphasise the value of enhancing the cultural level of a community as a means of fostering overall growth and development. This entails recognising the role of cultural nourishment in cultivating creative capacities that can contribute to the improvement of the human condition.
In light of the centenary celebrations, the Ghaqda Nazzjonali Kazini tal-Banda in collaboration with the Centro Studi “Giacomo Puccini” have opted to engage the Malta Symphonic Band with a sophisticated and engaging musical initiative. This will enable listeners to gradually familiarise themselves with the diverse musical styles and their evolution, thereby facilitating a tangible enhancement in musical literacy. This endeavour will serve to honour the esteemed art form and the celebrated Maestro, to whom we are paying homage this year.
