Back to What's onThe King’s Own Philharmonic Society, one of the two main civic band clubs in Valletta, is, this year,
celebrating its hundred and fiftieth anniversary. In order to celebrate this important milestone, the organising committee has planned a major event every month throughout the whole of 2024. The events vary from religious to cultural events, educational and, naturally, musical. No less than four musical concerts have been already executed this year, three in Malta and one in the Basilica di San Domenico in Bologna, the city
where the Society’s patron saint is buried.
Today’s musical concert, entitled One Hundred and Fifty Years of Music, is the Society’s event for the month of September 2024. The concert is intended to take the audience through the various styles of music which has animated different audiences throughout most of the last century with some of the chosen pieces being played for the first time by a civic band.
The King’s Own Band will be under the baton of its musical Director, Dr. John Galea, together with
the participation of other local artists.
