The Malta Police Force Band is the premier Police Band of Malta, consisting of seventy five musicians.
It was established in 1920 by the local Commissioner of Police Lieutenant Colonel Henry William Bamford and consisted of bandsmen emanating from The King’s Own Malta Regiment and the Royal Malta Artillery. Its first Musical Director was Mro Emmanuele Magro, former director of the Commander-in-Chief Orchestra in Malta.
The current Band Director is Maestro Anthony Cassar who joined the Malta Police Corps as a Police Constable in 1986 and during the following years was promoted to Police Inspector, Senior Inspector, Superintendent, Senior Superintendent and Assistant Commissioner.
Being the fifth Director of Music since 1920 he has been in charge of the Band for nearly forty years .
In December 1999 the band participated in a massed-band display for the first time with the Armed Forces of Malta Band to mark the country’s 25th anniversary.
Since 2004, the band has participated in the Malta Military Tattoo with several other foreign bands.
The Malta Police Force Band also had the opportunity to perform abroad with the last of these performances being in Rome and the Vatican City during December 2024 where the Band also performed three Vocal and Instrumental concerts, one of which being a joint Concert with the Gendarmi Band and the San Paolo Fuori le Mura Choir on the occasion of Pope Francis` 88th Birthday at the Sant`Andrea Della Valle Basilica.
Between 2002 and 2011, the band released three Compact Discs consisting of music pieces ranging from military marches to contemporary and classical music.
The Malta Police Force Band serves as a bridge between the general public and the Police Corps.
