Back to What's onThe San Pio X Band Club together with the Malta Band Club Association presents a Band Concert on the occasion of St Cecilia’s feast. The band will be under the direction of band master Mro Reno Busuttil and will perform various works for concert band including foreign and local composers with soloists from Lija.
In 1905, the “Soċjeta’ Mandolinistika – Fior d’Arancio” became a formal band through the efforts of Mro. Francesco Saverio Pizzuto and was officially named Soċjeta’Mużikali San Pio X. The band performed for the first time a year later in 1906 under the baton of Mro. Antonio Miruzzi, its first conductor.
The Saint Cecilia Concert is one of the five annual band concerts organised by the Malta Band Club Association, with a different band selected each year. The tradition started in 1979 and the concert has been held at Teatru Manoel since 1985.
